Mt. Zion Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America
The
membership
of
the
Mr.
Zion
Women
of
the
ELCA
includes
all
women
in
the church. They are led by a board of officers and team members. They
are a Congregational Unit of the Central Valley Conference, a part of
the Virginia Synodical Women's Organization joining 64 women's synodical
organizations across the United States and the Caribbean as the
churchwide Women of the ELCA. The Mt. Zion WELCA sponsors a variety of
activities and programs to support the congregation and the community.
The purpose statement of Mt. Zion WELCA is:
As a community of women created in the image of God, called to
discipleship in Jesus Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we
commit ourselves to grow in faith, affirm our gifts, support one another
in our callings, engage in ministry and action, and promote healing and
wholeness in the church, the society and the world.
Our business meetings are held bi-monthly on Saturday mornings at 10:00
a.m. The annual organizational meeting is held in January. Check our
calendar page for other dates. All meetings are at the church and all
women are invited to attend.
The activities sponsored include, but are not limited to:
1) Sponsoring the Adult Fellowship - a meal and program held the 3rd
Tuesday of each month from September through May
2) Sponsoring Soup and Sandwich meal prior to the Wednesday Lenten
services
3) Provide volunteers 4 times a month at the Woodstock Clothes Closet
4) Provide monetary support to the Empty Stocking Fund, the Woodstock
Food Pantry, and to Luther Crest, an adult home
5) Preparing and delivering Valentine baskets to the elderly
6) Organize dinners for the Mt. Zion congregation, in grief situations,
and for local non-profit organizations
7) Sponsor a churchwide monetary collection for blankets
8) Sponsor an annual Fall Women's Retreat
9) Sponsor a prayer chain
